Digital Design Studio: Windows, Linux and Cloud workspace update

Digital Design Studio 1.0.87 refines the workspace, connecting project settings and file editing more smoothly. Eight appearance options and nine HintsBox color settings let you tailor the screen to your work.

Article sections

Digital Design Studio 1.0.87 refines the screens used every day, from opening a project and editing source to reviewing the design structure and results. Moving between project settings and code takes fewer steps, and it is easier to keep working while renaming files or rearranging tabs.

The shared interface for Windows and Linux desktops and Cloud brings more consistency to the code editor and ALcad. From code suggestion colors to the design canvas background, detailed controls let you adapt the workspace to your environment and preferences.

DDS, ALcad and AI each have a dedicated workspace and tools. Open and switch between design, CAD and AI workspaces from the Cloud window list.

The workspace in numbers

Choose an appearance, adjust individual colors and apply the same settings across tools.

  1. 8 · Appearance options

Choose System, which follows your device settings, or Light, Dark, Graphite, High Contrast, Teal, Dracula and Desert. You can also add custom themes with your own names.

  2. 9 · HintsBox color settings

Adjust backgrounds, text, secondary text, selection and hover states for the suggestion list and detail panel. Light and dark themes can use separate color values.

  3. 5 · Screens sharing one appearance

Apply the selected appearance to Dashboard, Settings, DDS, ALcad and Live Run within the same profile. The workspace stays familiar as you move between tools.

Connected work around one project

Explorer for finding source files, Flow Navigator for choosing tasks, ALcad for viewing design structure and Analysis for reviewing results all connect to the same project. Tabs let you move between file browsing, code changes and design review.

From project to results

Follow the workflow from project selection through source editing and task selection to reviewing results.

  1. Select a project

Opening a local project or a Cloud project you can access brings its files and work screens together.

  2. Edit and save

Find source files in Explorer, edit them and save your changes. Folder view shows the file organization; hierarchy view shows module relationships derived from the source.

  3. Choose a task

Flow Navigator groups the tasks available for the project, including ISA design and RTL analysis.

  4. Review results

Inspect design structure and connections in ALcad, and review saved results in formats supported by Analysis.

ISA work also stays with the current project in Flow Navigator. This reduces the need to find a separate screen for each task and makes the path from source changes to related designs and results more direct.

Keep editing while adjusting settings and organizing files

Project settings for DDS and ALcad open in a separate tab in the main work area. Keep settings alongside source or design tabs and switch between them. Opening settings again returns to the existing tab; closing it returns you to the previous work screen.

Renaming an open file in Explorer preserves unsaved edits, the cursor position and undo history. Organizing files is less likely to interrupt editing or leave you searching for your place again.

Opening, closing and reordering tabs is smoother. Tabs move into position, and selecting a tab outside the visible area scrolls it into view. This makes it easier to keep track of your work across several files and tools.

Search follows the area you are using. Ctrl+F in the left panel searches that panel; in the source editor, it searches the current file. Refined character-width and cursor-position calculations also make the insertion point more accurate on long lines.

Appearance and colors for your work

Appearance settings include distinct palettes such as Graphite, Teal, Dracula and Desert. High Contrast increases visual contrast, while System follows your device's light or dark mode.

HintsBox separates code suggestions from their detailed descriptions. Color controls cover the list background and text, selected and hovered items, and secondary descriptions. You can adjust the contrast between your code and the suggestion panel for comfortable reading.

The GDS viewer background has its own setting. Keep the app's overall appearance while choosing a different background for the layout canvas. Separate values for light and dark themes preserve your chosen combinations when the mode changes.

Export custom appearance settings as XML and import them in another environment. Along with applying one appearance across the main screens in a profile, this reduces the effort of recreating familiar colors and contrast elsewhere.

A dedicated AI workspace and extension tools

Open AI as a full workspace or a floating chat. New run, run search, the knowledge base and recent runs sit together, with a Board panel for ideas, sketches, code drafts and notes.

The composer brings file attachments and model and reasoning-effort selection together. Browse available models and choose a reasoning level supported by the selected model in the same place.

The Plugins screen combines search and category filters to narrow the catalog. Publisher, version and source information appear with each entry, making it easier to find the tools you need.

Academy practice guidance starts collapsed. Keep more space for editing, then expand the guidance to read it or open the lesson when needed. Instructions and practical work get in each other's way less often.
